Denpasar: Another embarrassing blow has hit Bali, this time with Ngurah Rai airport’s customs and excise officers exposed in a video showing bribery going viral on YouTube.

After the Bali Police became a viral sensation in a video made for the Dutch television program Oplichters in het Buitenland (Scammers Abroad), Dutch journalist Kees Van Der Spek has uploaded his encounter with officials at Ngurah Rai airport.

Since Thursday night, thousands of viewers have already watched the video.

In the 2-minute-39-second video, Van Der Spek’s team had to pay US$200 to the customs and excise officers. The journalist gave the money while shaking hands with the officers, who did not realize that they were being filmed.

The video, entitled “Bribes to Customs Officials at Ngurah Rai”, has sparked anger among high-ranking officials in the customs office.

Made Wijaya, head of the Customs and Excise Agency at Ngurah Rai airport, said, as quoted by, that he would soon form a team to investigate the case.

“I will summon all the officers involved in the bribery case,” he said, adding he was in Surabaya in East Java until Sunday night.

“On Monday morning, I will receive reports from the investigative team and will inform journalists too,” promised Wijaya.
