Denpasar: A traditional bondres performance with the theme “Tualen Looks for a Leader” will be the highlight of the opening of the campaign period for the gubernatorial election on 28 April at the Ksirarnawa Building, Taman Budaya, Denpasar.

“For the opening of the campaign this time, we have deliberately kept it simple, the most important thing is not to detract from the solemn, orderly and safe atmosphere. This bondres performance will contain the values of leadership,” said organizer Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi, in Denpasar, Friday, as reported by Antara news agency.

Bondres is a traditional Balinese performing art in which the players use masks to emphasize the meaning of the story and sometimes to tell jokes. Meanwhile, the character Tualen, from Balinese wayang, is a clown or servant of the king who always defends the truth.

The campaign opening ceremony will start at 5 p.m. at the Ksirarnawa Building and be attended by both pairs of candidates for the position of governor and deputy governor of the province, along with teams of no more than 100 people for each candidate, representatives of the Regional Leadership Coordinating Forum for Bali, public figures and members of the election commissions.

“This event will also see a declaration of peace and the signing of a peace agreement between the two pairs of candidates,” said Sandi.
